    JasperReports is an open source Java reporting tool that can write to screen, to a printer or into PDF, HTML, Microsoft Excel, RTF, ODT, Comma-separated values and XML files.

    It can be used in Java-enabled applications, including J2EE or Web applications, to generate dynamic content. It reads its instructions from an XML or .jasper file.

    JasperReports is a library that you embed in another application. “Installing” JasperReports simply means including the JasperReport “jar” file in the classpath of your application along with other required jar files.

    Its primary audience is Java developers and secondary audiences are script and other software developers (PHP, Perl, C/C++, web services).

    Its features include the following:

    * Dashboards, tables, crosstabs, charts and gauges
    * Web-based and pixel-perfect reports
    * Report output in PDF, XML, HTML, CSV, XLS, RTF, TXT
