Codeigniter is an excellent framework.

We recently choose it as a development platform and were very impressed with how easy it is to get up and running.

The framework is almost completely OO, and although it will work with PHP4, it really shines under PHP5 - where you can use all those lovely object features in PHP5.

If you allow it, it will guide you right into development with the MVC pattern, but you can alter/hack/extend to your hearts delight.

Documentation is excellent, and extremely well laid out.

My only gripe would be the lack of a basic authentication mechanism and/or permissions, but it is extremely easy to DIY (otherwise it would get.5/5 on features). There are also plenty of third party authentication plugins.

Overall a perfect framework for making quick and easy web-applications, you won't be disappointed with this choice if you are into PHP.
