  • Description

CodeIgniter is a powerful PHP framework with a very small footprint, built for PHP coders who need a simple and elegant toolkit to create full-featured web applications.

It enables developers to build applications much faster by providing a rich set of libraries for commonly needed tasks, as well as a simple interface and a logical structure to access these libraries.

Some of its main features are as follows:

    * Framework with a small footprint.

    * Broad compatibility with standard hosting accounts that run a variety of PHP versions and configurations.

    * Requires nearly zero configuration and no need to use the command line.

    * Does not require users to adhere to restrictive coding rules and no need to learn a templating language (although a template parser is optionally available if you desire one).

    * Provides clear and thorough documentation.

Codeigniter is an excellent framework.

We recently choose it as a development platform and were very impressed with how easy it is to get up and running.

The framework is almost completely OO, and although it will work with PHP4, it really shines under PHP5 – where you can use all those lovely object features in PHP5.

If you allow it, it will guide you right into development with the MVC pattern, but you can alter/hack/extend to your hearts delight.

Documentation is excellent, and extremely well laid out.

My only gripe would be the lack of a basic authentication mechanism and/or permissions, but it is extremely easy to DIY (otherwise it would get.5/5 on features). There are also plenty of third party authentication plugins.
