Here's a chance to mention your favorite Open Source video applications and discuss what Open Source software to use for various tasks.

For video players, I like vlc and mplayer.  There are even portable apps versions of these that work on a flash drive.  On Windows specifically, I also like media player classic and some of its variants for quicktime and realtime playback.  On Linux specifically, I like flxine which is xine with a fltk front end.

For creating videos, there's vstrip for getting files into MPEG format, mpeg2schnitt (Windows) or gopchop (Linux) for editing MPEG files, DVDStyler for authoring.  I use vlc to check the ISO files DVDStyler creates.

For saving video of your desktop (for tutorials, etc.), I like Camstudio (Windows only).

Anyone have any other recommendations?  Anyone have any video/multimedia tasks they routinely accomplish with Open Source applications?
