I'd be interested to hear from anyone using a mobile phone with the Google Android operating system. What's it like? How useful is it? Can it compete with the Apple's iPhone?

I have an iPhone and I love it to bits. My best friend has just bought an Android phone from T-Mobile here in the UK so we're having a battle of the phones thing at the moment. In many ways it's unfair to compare the iPhone with Android because Android is an operating system and not a complete package.

My friend's t-mobile phone for example is the T-Mobie G1 and the handset is fairly dull compared with the iPhone. But to its advantage it has a slide out keyboard and I often wish I could type stuff with my iPhone.

That being said, I find the iPhone far more slick in terms of its usability. Navigation is a dream and the entire os is really well thought out and intuitive. Android feels pretty empty with its default settings, but I guess the point is that more and more apps will eb developed for Android so in the future it should be pretty powerful. It's too early to tell right now.

For a decent review of the T-Mobile G1 see here.
