I’m new to prestashop and my first impressions are good.

The installation vent sooth, og the help in the forums are great.

I think it is pretty easy to use, and it seems to work perfectly.

So give prestashop a try, in 2011

I can tell you from my experience that Prestashop is much easier to install use and maintain than any other open source shopping carts I’ve tried. In fact, I am just now in the middle of converting a Magento site and an OSCommerce site to Prestashop for a couple of clients.

Prestashop has been growing and improving extremely fast, both in number of users / forum members, and in development / features added. The Prestashop forum has grown as well, it reached over 50,000 members. It now has many more experienced users that offer help on the forum. I am an English Moderator on the forum, and I see many people that are far less tech savvy than me that manage to install and customize their own shops, and install themes, modules and modification with little or no help.

I wrote many modules that I offer in my website to help create a better experience for customers and increase productivity and sales. For example, a filter module, a translation module (which I used to translate my site to 15 other languages), and attribute modules that let you customize your attributes.

I have also written many tips about troubleshooting and fixing common problems, improving SEO, and other useful information.

Yes prestashop is an nice piece of software. But the support from the developers is an nightmare.
If you get an answer from them, the answer has nothing to do with your problem.

OSCommerce is a powerful and complex web-shopping system with web-based administration tools, excellent contributions from the community, great support forums, and an instantly recognizable user experience. Most web hosts with some type of control panel offer easy installation, too, making it very tempting.

Downsides include complex PHP construction and SQL Database management, making anyone not comfortable with blind copy/paste a poor candidate for using this, especially for adding user contributions (many of which provide much-needed functionality). A plethora of contributions and a robust basic installation means that most users will have everything at arm’s reach, and it will only cost them their time to implement it.

There is also a new market of support companies that offer installation, transfer, and modification of existing OSCommerce installations.

I give mediocre grades for usability due to sometimes convoluted and awkward administrative screens, particularly regarding management of product attributes (a red one, a blue one, etc.). Customer user experience is within expected norms.

Great software. But….

PrestaShop support SUCKS! It’s like pulling teeth over there to get an answer. I have been completely ignored in 5 different threads concerning 5 different problems and I was very nice asking for help. There is one person that is very helpful when it’s something he can help you with, but he’s not even part of the development team! The developers release the product and then ignore you when you need help. When you report a bug, they reply that they fixed it but they don’t tell you how! Now I am stuck with a 600-product store that is non-functional and customers screaming at me to get it fixed.
