ResourceSpace is a web-based, open source digital asset management system which has been designed to give your content creators easy and fast access to print and web ready assets.

ResourceSpace is an open source Digital Asset Management system originally developed for Oxfam. It has been released under a BSD-style license. It requires PHP, MySQL, and the GD Graphics Library, and works with most web server software such as Apache.

A particular focus is on the improvement of collaboration between users when assembling resources together for a project. Users can create custom ‘collections’ which include resources and saved searches, which can be shared with other users. Collections work like a shopping cart on an e-commerce site, and are always visible in a strip at the bottom of the screen.

Key features include:

- Pure web interface

- Intelligent search ordering – resources are scored against each keyword using user search activity

- Organisation, collaboration and distribution – tools to organise resources, share with colleagues on projects and distribute to others; removes the need to e-mail large files.

- Automatic resizing – resources can be downloaded in a variety of sizes so users can choose if they require high quality print files or lower quality screen / web resolution files, saving bandwidth and download time.

- Archiving – resources can be archived and are then not visible in the main search.

- User contributions – allows users to submit resources to the system, which can then be processed by a central team before being made available to other users – useful for working with remote photographers.

- Automatic thumbnail creation for most image and video file types including JPEG, GIF, PNG, PDF, TTF, Photoshop PSD, AVI, MOV, MPEG using ImageMagick and FFmpeg

- and much more…

Dia is roughly inspired by the commercial Windows program ‘Visio’, though more geared towards informal diagrams for casual use.

It can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and many other diagrams.

It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.

It can load and save diagrams to a custom XML format (gzipped by default, to save space), can export diagrams to a number of formats, including EPS, SVG, XFIG, WMF and PNG, and can print diagrams (including ones that span multiple pages).

An open source, downloadable, multi-scale, virtual catalog of the mouse brain and its cellular constituents.

The Whole Brain Catalog is a ground-breaking, open-source, 3-D virtual environment developed by a team of researchers from UC San Diego under the Whole Brain Project.

The Catalog aims to connect members of the international neuroscience community to facilitate solutions for today’s intractable challenges in brain research through cooperation and crowd sourcing.

Users of the Whole Brain Catalog can:

- Fit data of any scale into the international standard atlas coordinate system for spatial brain mapping, the “Waxholm Space.”
- View brain slices, neurons and their animation, neuropil reconstructions, and molecules in appropriate locations
- View data up close and at a high resolution
- View their own data in the Whole Brain Catalog environment
- View data within a semantic environment supported by vocabularies from the Neuroscience Information Framework (NIF) at http://www.neuinfo.org.
- Contribute code and connect personal tools to the environment
- Make new connections with related research and researchers

Get the source files here.

Some usage examples include:

- operating a computer one-handed, by joystick, touchscreen, trackball, or mouse;

- operating a computer with zero hands (i.e., by head-mouse or by eyetracker);

- using a palmtop or wearable computer.

The eyetracking version of Dasher allows an experienced user to write text as fast as normal handwriting – 29 words per minute; using a mouse, experienced users can write at 39 words per minute.

ALEMBIC is an open source exchange format that aims to become the standard for exchanging animated computer graphics scenes between content creation software packages.

Alembic is an open computer graphics interchange framework. Alembic distills complex, animated scenes into a non-procedural, application-independent set of baked geometric results. This ‘distillation’ of scenes into baked geometry is exactly analogous to the distillation of lighting and rendering scenes into rendered image data.

Alembic is focused on efficiently storing the computed results of complex procedural geometric constructions. It is very specifically NOT concerned with storing the complex dependency graph of procedural tools used to create the computed results. For example, Alembic will efficiently store the animated vertex positions and animated transforms that result from an arbitrarily complex animation and simulation process which could involve enveloping, corrective shapes, volume-preserving simulations, cloth and flesh simulations, and so on. Alembic will not attempt to store a representation of the network of computations (rigs, basically) which are required to produce the final, animated vertex positions and animated transforms.
