Simsu is a basic Sudoku game. You can switch between filling in notes (pencil mode), or filling in answers (pen mode).

To make it easier to see where to place numbers, you can highlight all instances of a number.

You can also check your answers for correctness while playing.

The game stores your current notes and answers, so that you can pick up where you left off the next time you play.

Tux Paint is a free, award-winning drawing program for children ages 3 to 12 (for example, key stages 1 and 2). It combines an easy-to-use interface, fun sound effects, and an encouraging cartoon mascot who guides children as they use the program.

Kids are presented with a blank canvas and a variety of drawing tools to help them be creative.

Tux Paint runs on a variety of platforms, including all versions of Windows (including Tablet PC), Mac OS X 10.3 and up, Linux, BeOS and Haiku, FreeBSD and NetBSD. It works well on older, slower systems, as well as thin-clients such as LTSP, Citrix® and Windows Terminal Services. It even runs on some handheld computers!

ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!

Some of the adventures ScummVM supports include Adventure Soft’s Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2; Revolution’s Beneath A Steel Sky and Broken Sword I & II; Flight of the Amazon Queen; Wyrmkeep’s Inherit the Earth; Coktel Vision’s Gobliiins; Westwood Studios’ The Legend of Kyrandia and games based on LucasArts’ SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) system such as Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and more. You can find a thorough list with details on which games are supported and how well on the compatibility page. ScummVM is continually improving, so check back often.

Among the systems on which you can play those games are Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Dreamcast, PocketPC, PalmOS, AmigaOS, BeOS, OS/2, PSP, PS2, SymbianOS and many more…

OpenGameArt.org is a community that brings like-minded coders and artists together for the purpose of creating Open Source video games, by providing a human-edited, searchable database of freely-licensed art resources.

If you’ve ever browsed Free/Open Source game sites (such as The Linux Game Tome, you’ll notice that a fairly significant number of the games available suffer from what’s lovingly referred to as ‘programmer art’. There are, of course, some notable exceptions to this, but it’s clear that, for an open source game to produce good art, it has to become large and popular enough to attract artists.

Unfortunately, many fun and well-designed games never reach this point and are thus stuck with placeholder art, which ultimately detracts from their appeal and popularity. Furthermore, it’s not unheard of for open source projects to rip their placeholder art from commercial games, which is illegal and could conceivably result in a lawsuit.

The purpose of this site is to provide a solid (and hopefully ever-expanding) variety of high quality, freely licensed art, so that free/open source game developers can use it in their games.
